Danny Welbeck is an exciting prospect who is tipped to be the first striker since Mark Hughes, to come through Manchester United's fabled youth set-up. His languid style and silky skills means he's a very unpredictable and because of this is able to create chances out of nothing, for himself and his team mates.

The striker was added to the first-team squad in the second half of the 2007-2008 season due to his impressive displays for Manchester United reserves. Most United fans got their first glimpse of Welbeck when The Reds took on Al-Hilal in a friendly match on 21 January 2008 in Saudi Arabia, coming on as a 65th minute replacement for Anderson . The young striker had a mixed debut. In the last minute he used his fast feet to win The Reds a last minute penalty, Welbeck elected to take the spot-kick, but hit the ball a good few feet over the bar. After the game, which United lost 3-2, it was evident that Sir Alex Fergusonwas far from happy with the player.

Although the player was named as a Manchester United substitute, for quite a few games during that season, he didn't make his debut until 23 September 2008 in the 3-1 League Cup victory over Middlesborough, when he started the game along side Carlos Tevez up front.

Danny Welbeck's League debut came on 15 November 2008 in the United's 5-0 victory at Old Trafford , when he replaced Park Ji-Sung in the 63rd minute. The game also marked his first goal for the club, when he played a lovely one-two with Manucho on the half way line, before running forward a few yards and unleashing a 30 yard screamer in the top corner.
